"Sweet Virginia"
Sweet Virginia is a 40 ft Dutch Barge which had a total refit from a steel shell. We raised the front cabin and replaced all the windows and portholes as well as refitting the interior. This was an exciting project to work on as all the wood that we used was from two fallen trees, an ash and an oak, that the boat owner had sawn, stacked and seasoned seven years earlier. The floor and the clinker planking were made from the olive ash, which we gradiated from the darker shades on the flat getting lighter on the curved sides. The galley cupboards and doors were all made from the oak tree. The work surface which has a carved draining board is made from brazilian rosewood, which the owner supplied.
Humber Keel "Whim"
Whim is a 90 ft riveted iron Humber Keel which was totally refitted.
She has an enormous 60 ft lounge, with solid pich pine flooring throughout, an oak kitchen with a 1950s aluminium sink unit, stainless steel work surfaces and a large solid oak kitchen dresser.I also at a later date fitted tapering curved oak shelves to the bow. She has a large bathroom with walk in shower, a solid pippy oak and teak sink unit and pippy oak floor.I constructed all the bedroom furniture with curved corners and oak joinery to carry on the 50s feel.
The Royal Barge "Gloriana"
I was very pleased to be part of the team, under Mark Edwards, who built the Queens royal barge Gloriana, i was employed on the fitting of the interior of the cabin, construction of the cabin stairs, making of the hand rails, ,carving, moulding and casting of some of the decorative elements and general mucking in on the building and finishing. A great project to have been involved in and a pleasure to work with all the boatbuilders and other trades involved in completing her in time for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the river Thames.
